Unipharm Case Study: Simple, Flexible Pricing Analytics at a Reasonable Cost

Unipharm's E-commerce and Market Development Director explains why the company has relied on Priceva's data every day for more than two years and what the business gains from automated price monitoring.

About the Company

Unipharm is a pharmaceutical company with 30 years of market experience. The company manufactures and sells pharmaceutical products and dietary supplements.

Unipharm has multiple divisions, including manufacturing operations, around the world. Although the company is relatively small compared with major global pharmaceutical corporations, its portfolio includes well-established brands such as Melaxen and Detrimax.

This case study explores how the company's e-commerce business uses Priceva's price monitoring capabilities to support both tactical and strategic tasks.

Why Unipharm Needed Market Monitoring

Unipharm has been actively developing its e-commerce business since 2017. Starting in 2020, the e-commerce channel became increasingly important to the company and began accounting for a significant share of sales.

This created a clear need for reliable price monitoring across different sales channels.

However, Unipharm was primarily interested in monitoring its own products and prices. The company needed to understand its market position: where its products were available, at what prices they were being sold, and how those prices changed over time.

How Unipharm Chose a Price Monitoring Tool

“We tried a large number of different services. Most of them were broader platforms that included several functions at once — not just price or availability monitoring, but product listing comparisons and many other features. In my view, these services often worked inconsistently because they were trying to do too many things at once.

At some point, we realized that what we really needed was simply price monitoring. We discovered Priceva at an industry event. Price monitoring was its specialization and core product, and that caught our attention.

When we started working with Priceva, it was the first service that didn't create unnecessary friction. Everything was simple, clear, and transparent. The service does exactly what it is designed to do.”

What Price Monitoring Helps Unipharm Do

Automated price monitoring addresses several business needs.

  • Initially, the main objective was to understand product availability and the company's own price positioning — where Unipharm products were available and at what prices they were being sold.
  • As the company became more active on marketplaces, Priceva also became a tool for comparing prices across different platforms and adjusting the company's marketplace pricing.
“The pharmaceutical market has its own specifics, and comparing our products with alternatives purely on price doesn't make much sense. Of course, there are competing products, but knowing their prices doesn't directly influence our own pricing decisions. If a competitor reduces its price, we aren't necessarily going to follow.

For example, we may manufacture a vitamin D3 product while another company offers its own vitamin D3. The two products can have different prices, but each brand has its own loyal customers. If the competitor reduces its price, that doesn't mean we will automatically reduce ours.

That's because we're a manufacturer rather than a reseller. A reseller needs to understand the minimum market price when deciding how to price inventory it has purchased.

As a manufacturer, we have our own pricing strategy, and what matters to us is understanding how that strategy is reflected in the market. Our products are available on marketplaces, so we monitor our prices there. We also need visibility into pricing across the distribution network to support our distribution strategy.”

Monitoring Scope and Frequency

Unipharm monitors prices for 30 SKUs across 20–30 websites and sales channels once a day.

For selected products sold through marketplaces, monitoring is configured to run once every hour.

How Unipharm Uses Priceva

The company uses Priceva in three main ways.

1. Working Directly in the Priceva Dashboard

The team actively works within the Priceva account. Employees use different sections of the platform, dashboards, segmentation tools, and filters.

For example, filters make it possible to quickly check the price of a particular SKU three months ago or analyze how its price changed over a quarter.

2. Exporting Reports for Specific Business Requests

The company exports different types of reports depending on the task.

After more than two years of using Priceva, the team knows how to quickly retrieve the information it needs. Excel reports are also prepared for colleagues in the commercial and marketing departments.

3. API Integration

The third way Unipharm uses Priceva is through API integration.
“We have product websites where we show customers that a particular product can be purchased on a marketplace at a specific price. Because the marketplace price changes frequently, we have hourly price monitoring configured for selected products.

We transfer this information to our websites through the API so that the price displayed on our website is identical to the price customers see when they visit the marketplace. It is important that a customer who sees a particular price on our website sees exactly the same price when they proceed to the marketplace.”

This functionality essentially operates as a widget on the company's websites.

Products using this setup currently account for around half of the company's portfolio, and Unipharm plans to extend the same approach to the entire portfolio.

Monitoring is performed only during daytime hours when sales are actually taking place, resulting in approximately 10-12 marketplace price checks per day.

Why Unipharm Chose Priceva

“Before choosing Priceva, we tried many different services. We first discovered the platform at an industry conference. We were walking through the exhibition, saw the Priceva booth, met the team, and asked them to explain the platform's features and capabilities.

At the time, our contract with another service was coming to an end. That solution wasn't particularly convenient or transparent for us.

We spoke with the person who would later become our account manager, and everything was explained clearly. We decided to try the service, signed the contract, and started working with it. The setup was quick, and everything worked well from the beginning.”

How the Initial Setup Worked

At the start, the company needed to identify around 150 product links. Priceva's support team helped with the initial matching process.

Once regular monitoring had been configured and launched, the Unipharm team began adding and removing subsequent links independently.

The company found the service user-friendly, making these routine changes quick and straightforward.

Why Unipharm Continued Using Priceva

“We've stayed with the service for a long time because we like the company's overall approach. At the beginning, our account manager made a very positive impression. He clearly understood our requirements and answered all of our questions. We received extremely friendly customer service.

For example, the service normally operates under its standard agreement, but we needed a traditional paper contract. The Priceva team accommodated our request and prepared one. At every stage, it was clear that we weren't being left on our own.

This kind of customer-oriented approach is often associated with expensive enterprise solutions where you have a dedicated manager and project team. Here, despite the service being reasonably priced, we still receive an individual approach and plenty of attention.

We aren't told that if the standard way the service works doesn't suit us, that's our problem. The team listens to us and helps us. That's why we've been working regularly with Priceva for three years without any issues.”

How Many Employees Use Priceva

Around 6-7 employees work directly in the Priceva account. These are primarily employees responsible for e-commerce.

The number of people who use the Excel reports exported from Priceva is much larger — approximately 20-30 employees.

What Unipharm Gets From Priceva

For Unipharm, Priceva serves as a reliable source of pricing information and analytics.

1. The Analytics Needed for Pricing Decisions

The service provides the data and analytics the company needs to support its pricing decisions.

2. Simple and Responsive Support

“If something breaks, it usually resolves itself. If it doesn't, I can contact technical support in one click and get a response. We really value that because it's exactly what we need.”
E-commerce and Market Development Director

3. Flexibility for New Business Requirements

Unipharm does not monitor thousands of SKUs, so the company does not position massive time savings as the primary benefit.

Instead, one of the most important advantages is flexibility.
“When we have a new task and come to the team with a request, they review it quickly and try to find a solution.

For example, we might need to collect customer reviews from a marketplace once a week or have another new data collection requirement. We ask whether it can be done, and the team can usually configure it quite quickly.”
E-commerce and Market Development Director

4. Reasonable Cost

“The service provides all of these capabilities at a completely reasonable cost that, in my view, matches the tasks and their implementation.

We essentially never hear a simple ‘no.’ Instead, the response is either, ‘Let's think about it and see what we can do,’ or, ‘We can implement it, but let's first make sure the cost makes sense for you,’ followed by an implementation estimate.”
E-commerce and Market Development Director

5. Comfort and Ease of Use

For Unipharm, the most important benefit of Priceva is ultimately comfort and simplicity.
“The most important thing we get from Priceva is comfort and ease of use. Whatever we need, first, it can usually be done, and second, it's genuinely simple to do.”
E-commerce and Market Development Director

Conclusion

For Unipharm, the value of automated price monitoring is not simply about replacing manual work. Priceva has become a flexible source of pricing data that supports daily monitoring, reporting, marketplace price synchronization, and broader e-commerce decision-making.

With daily monitoring across 20–30 sales channels, hourly checks for selected marketplace products, API integration, and reports used by 20-30 employees, the company has built price analytics into its regular workflows. At the same time, Unipharm highlights what matters most to its team: a straightforward service, flexible configuration, responsive support, and capabilities delivered at a reasonable cost.
