BASK Case Study: How a Brand Improved MAP Compliance Across 50+ Dealers With Priceva

BASK, a manufacturer of clothing and equipment for extreme winter conditions, faced a major pricing challenge: reducing price inconsistencies, preventing dealer price dumping, and maintaining the brand's pricing policy across its sales network.

Instead of relying on manual checks and responding to individual complaints, the company implemented automated price monitoring with Priceva. This helped BASK establish a more systematic MAP control process and bring greater consistency to pricing across its dealer network.

About the Company

BASK is a manufacturer specializing in winter and outdoor clothing, equipment for extreme tourism, mountaineering, and polar expeditions. The company has been operating for more than 30 years and develops products designed for demanding cold-weather conditions.

One of BASK's areas of expertise is cold-weather product testing and quality control. Its production process includes the preparation of down insulation, manufacturing, and quality assurance across more than 30 production facilities. Products are also tested under harsh conditions by athletes and experienced travelers.

The brand operates through several sales channels:
  • its own online store and showroom;
  • a discount store;
  • more than 50 active dealers;
  • major online marketplaces.

Business Challenge

Maintaining Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) compliance is an important part of BASK's pricing strategy.

However, without comprehensive and regular MAP monitoring, several problems emerged:
  • dealers sometimes published products with incorrect information or inaccurate prices;
  • price dumping by one seller could reduce sales for other dealers, negatively affecting dealer relationships and the brand's overall market positioning;
  • complaints about pricing violations were handled individually because there was no established system for ongoing control.
“If one dealer significantly reduced its price, other dealers suffered because their sales declined. We wanted all of our dealers to operate under equal conditions.”
Elizaveta Burichenko, BASK Online Store Team
Previously, pricing was monitored manually, either selectively or in response to a specific issue. As the product assortment expanded and the number of errors increased, automation became necessary.

Why BASK Chose Priceva for MAP Monitoring

The initiative to automate MAP monitoring came from the BASK online store team, which sells the brand's products directly and was also affected when other dealers significantly reduced their prices.
“We couldn't compete effectively when one of the sellers suddenly decided to run its own ‘Black Friday’ and started selling products significantly below MAP. In those situations, prices in our own online store were no longer competitive.”
Elizaveta Burichenko, BASK Online Store Team
The decision to implement Priceva was made jointly with the IT department. The team first became familiar with the service at an e-commerce industry event.

Key Reasons for Choosing Priceva

  • The ability to conduct large-scale and regular MAP monitoring.
  • Flexible configuration by marketplace, brand, and SKU.
  • A straightforward interface and flexible monitoring settings, including: unscheduled checks for price dumping; easy addition or replacement of product links; customizable reports.

Implementation: From Manual Control to a Systematic Process

Implementation took place in two stages:
1. Uploading current product listings.
2. Manually matching links for more than 700 SKUs.

Manual matching was required because dealer and marketplace product listings did not follow a consistent standard. Product names and SKUs were often formatted differently, which made fully automated product matching difficult.
“I matched around 90% of the links manually because of inconsistencies in dealer and marketplace product codes. Some product names were incorrect, while some stores used their own SKUs. I had to find and compare the products to make sure the match was accurate.”

Today, Priceva collects pricing data from 49 websites and marketplaces.

How MAP Monitoring Works Today

MAP monitoring with Priceva is carried out on a regular basis.

  • Once a week, the team exports a report on pricing violations.
“I report to the manufacturer's sales department: I indicate which dealers had violations, what communication was sent to them, and what responses we received. It has become a systematic process.”
Elizaveta Burichenko, BASK Online Store Team
  • Each report is manually reviewed. The team considers not only direct MAP violations but also agreed promotional conditions, including seasonal and individual promotions.

Thanks to flexible filtering, BASK can check whether dealers remain within the permitted discount ranges established in their agreements.
The company also analyzes product availability across dealers. Priceva shows the percentage of monitored stores where a particular product is available.

This information helps the team identify potential availability issues or increased demand and use the data when communicating with the production department.

  • Dealer notifications are prepared when violations are identified, requesting that pricing issues be corrected.
  • Product availability is monitored to support analysis and shipment planning.

The team uses Excel reports exported from Priceva together with its own macros.

The entire process takes approximately 2–5 hours per week.

“Manual monitoring used to take a long time, so it couldn't be done very often. Now exporting the report, checking it, and sending the notifications is several times faster.”

Results: What Changed

1. Fewer MAP Violations

“MAP violations used to occur frequently, but the situation has changed. Regular monitoring has produced results. We now see consistent compliance from most partners.”
Elizaveta Burichenko, BASK Online Store Team
  • More than 50% of dealers never violate MAP.
  • Monitoring helped the company identify 3–5 repeat violators and communicate that their pricing practices were negatively affecting other market participants.

2. Detection of Hidden Price Dumping

One dealer introduced discounts during specific overnight hours that were not visible during daytime manual monitoring.

Priceva detected the violation, the manufacturer contacted the dealer, and the issue was corrected.

This demonstrated one of the advantages of automated monitoring: violations can be identified even when they occur outside normal working hours.

3. More Consistent Conditions Across the Dealer Network

  • The brand can now distinguish between dealers that consistently follow its pricing framework and those that repeatedly deviate from it.
  • Dealers understand that pricing is monitored systematically rather than only when another partner submits a complaint.

This creates a more transparent environment across the dealer network and helps reduce the impact of uncontrolled price dumping.

Results of MAP Monitoring Automation

With Priceva, BASK has:
  • saved more than ten hours of employee time per month while significantly increasing the amount of pricing data collected;
  • moved from responding to individual complaints to proactive monitoring;
  • identified and resolved recurring pricing violations;
  • established a more standardized MAP monitoring process across 50+ dealers;
  • maintained strong dealer relationships while supporting more consistent conditions across its sales network.

Conclusion

The BASK case demonstrates how automated MAP monitoring can transform dealer price control from an occasional, complaint-driven process into a structured and repeatable workflow.

By monitoring more than 700 SKUs across 49 websites and marketplaces, reviewing violations every week, and combining automated data collection with manual validation of promotions and dealer agreements, BASK can manage MAP compliance while spending only 2–5 hours per week on the process.

For brands working with large dealer networks, this approach provides greater visibility into pricing behavior, helps identify recurring and hidden violations, and makes it easier to maintain more consistent conditions across sales channels.
